Ford’s latest F-150 pickup is better than ever, delivering more power, a tougher build and smarter technology. You can take it to almost any environment and have confidence in the truck’s ability to perform, yet during short everyday trips the vehicle is still sure to impress.
The F-150’s exterior design is the first sign that it is a dependable workhorse. Chunky alloy wheels sit under flared wheel arches, and with a raised ride height you sit further above the road so that more of your surroundings can be seen. The standard-fit Carbon Black front and rear bumpers protect the rest of the body from bumps and scrapes, and an upgrade swaps them for elegant chrome instead. There are halogen headlamps on the entry-level model to illuminate more of the road ahead plus fog lamps with select variants for extra visibility during low light. At the very rear is a class-leading cargo box that holds up to 2,192 liters and features tie-down points to fasten your payload securely.
A choice of Single Cab or Double Cab shapes gives you the option to prioritize cargo capacity or passenger space. Ford has added extra storage space in the center console for holding more vital items and has arranged the instrument cluster to be uncluttered so it’s easier to read drive details. The cabin environment has also become more refined with leather upholstery and carpeted floor mats available.
The technology included in the F-150 places it among the best in the class. Laptops and smartphones can be charged when on the move using 12 volt sockets, and the air conditioning system keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature year-round. These features are fitted at no extra cost, and with higher specification models you benefit from the Ford SYNC infotainment system with voice controls, satellite navigation plus USB ports and Ford’s intelligent MyKey.
There are three engine choices with the F-150 and each is more efficient than before. The most muscular in the range is a 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 with 385hp and 525Nm of torque that is available at 3,850rpm. Towing or carrying a heavy weight is a straightforward task with this burly unit under the bonnet. A 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 makes 90 percent of its peak torque available at just 1,700rpm, while the standard powertrain is a capable 293hp 3.5-liter V6. All of the F-150’s power is accessed quickly by the standard six-speed automatic gearbox, and Ford offers its SelectShift automatic transmission too which provides a semi-automatic mode to put you fully in control.
Improvements to the truck also include its safety performance, starting with a high-strength aluminum alloy for the body. An advanced Personal Safety System for the driver and right-front passenger protects them with safety belt pre tensioners and a crash severity sensor, with even more technology fitted to prevent accidents. AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Curve Control is one of the most significant as it enhances control on a variety of road surfaces and increases rollover protection.
